Frankfort is a city located in Clinton County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 16,662. The city is the county seat of Clinton County.

Frankfort Geography:

Frankfort is located at 40°16'56" North, 86°30'41" West (40.282182, -86.511466).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.3 km2 (5.1 mi2). 13.3 km2 (5.1 mi2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Frankfort Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there are 16,662 people, 6,279 households, and 4,175 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,251.6/km2 (3,240.5/mi2). There are 6,682 housing units at an average density of 501.9/km2 (1,299.6/mi2). The racial makeup of the city is 90.08% White, 0.47% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 7.84% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 13.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,279 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% are non-families. 28.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.12.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $33,275, and the median income for a family is $42,686. Males have a median income of $32,092 versus $23,722 for females.
